OpenAI has announced plans to begin testing ads in ChatGPT, specifically for users on the Free and Go tiers. This move is part of a long-term effort to keep AI technology widely accessible, without immediately requiring all users to subscribe to paid plans. The ad testing will be rolled out gradually over the coming weeks.
Despite the introduction of ads, OpenAI emphasizes that the quality and independence of ChatGPT’s responses will remain unchanged. Advertisements will not influence how the AI answers questions, ensuring users continue to receive objective and user-focused responses. In other words, ads will appear as a separate element, not as a factor shaping conversations.
From a privacy standpoint, OpenAI also stresses that user conversations will not be shared with advertisers. Chat data remains private and is not used for advertising purposes. Additionally, all ads will be clearly labeled and displayed separately, making it easy for users to distinguish between advertising content and AI-generated responses.
For paid users, the update brings reassurance: Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans will remain completely ad-free. This approach highlights OpenAI’s effort to balance business sustainability with user trust, aiming to build a transparent AI ecosystem that delivers long-term value for its community.
